Data overseas: tips for using it wisely
With a few simple settings, you can significantly reduce your data consumption.
Turn off automatic app updates.
Set automatic updates for the App Store and Google Play to Wi-Fi only. This prevents excessive background data consumption.
Turn off automatic photo syncing.
Pause automatic backups in iCloud Photos or Google Photos, and upload everything over Wi-Fi after you get home.
Utilize offline maps
Download maps of the areas you plan to visit in Google Maps or Apple Maps in advance, so navigation uses no data.
SNS data saver
Turn on data saver mode for Instagram, X (Twitter), and TikTok. Suppress automatic playback of images and videos.
Make use of Wi-Fi hotspots
Make full use of free Wi-Fi at hotels and cafes. Download large files and watch videos while connected to Wi-Fi.
Set to low data mode
"Turning on ""Low Data Mode"" on iOS/Android automatically suppresses background data communication across the entire system."
